Kids vs. adult belt progressions

A grey-belt kid and their blue-belt dad aren't climbing the same ladder; the switch is automatic.

How age detection works

MatPilot uses the member's date of birth to determine which belt ladder to apply. Make sure every member's date of birth is set correctly in their profile.

BJJ kids belts

The IBJJF kids system applies to members aged 15 and under. Belt order:

  1. White (with tip stripes)
  2. Grey/White
  3. Grey
  4. Grey/Black
  5. Yellow/White
  6. Yellow
  7. Yellow/Black
  8. Orange/White
  9. Orange
  10. Orange/Black
  11. Green/White
  12. Green
  13. Green/Black

Members aged 16 and up use the adult ladder (white, blue, purple, brown, black).

Other arts

Judo, Karate, and Taekwondo don't have a separate kids ladder in MatPilot. Members of any age progress through the same colour belt system for those arts.

Age transition

When a BJJ kid turns 16 while on green belt, their next promotion is to the adult blue belt. MatPilot presents the correct next step at promotion time based on their current age.

Setting date of birth

Go to the member's profile, Edit, Date of birth. This can be set by the owner or by the member themselves from their profile.
