Turning on bank debit for your gym
Two steps, and the order matters. Choosing it in MatPilot before activating it with the payment provider gets your members to a checkout that cannot take their money.
Step 1: activate it in your Stripe dashboard
Log in at dashboard.stripe.com, open Settings, then Payment methods, and turn on the bank debit for your currency: SEPA Direct Debit for euro, ACH for US dollar, Bacs for pound sterling.
Some methods need a short application and can take a day or two to be approved. Wait until it shows as active.
Step 2: choose it in MatPilot
My Academy, Money, Billing policy, then How members pay:
- Card. Cards only, the default.
- Bank debit. Bank debit only, which pushes every new member down the cheaper rail.
- Card + bank. Members choose at checkout.
What members see
At checkout they enter their bank details and authorise a mandate, which is the permission for you to collect. It is a one time step. You never see their bank details and MatPilot never stores them.
Existing members are not moved automatically. They switch themselves from their own billing page, which is what Reward members for switching to direct debit is for.
If something looks wrong
- Members still only see a card field. The method is not active in your dashboard yet, or your plan's currency has no bank debit rail.
- You picked bank debit and nothing changed for existing members. Correct. The setting governs new checkouts. Existing subscriptions keep the method they were set up with.
