Choosing a tablet for your kiosk
The kiosk runs happily on hardware you may already own, so do not overbuy.
The tablet
Any iPad or Android tablet from the last several years runs the kiosk comfortably. A 10 inch screen or bigger helps at a busy door, and a mid-range Android tablet is a perfectly good budget choice. Second-hand is fine.
Placement matters more than the model
- By the door, at hand height: people should walk past it, not look for it.
- On a stand with a cable channel: a locked mount and a routed charging cable keep it where it belongs.
- Always on power: the kiosk keeps the screen on all day, so it needs the charger.
Wi-Fi
The kiosk needs your Wi-Fi and nothing else. A short drop is not a problem, because it keeps working offline (see When the kiosk loses its internet connection), but a weak signal at the door all day is. A cheap extender fixes that.
Then lock it down
Once it is mounted and paired, spend two minutes locking the tablet to MatPilot.
