Locking down the kiosk tablet

What MatPilot already does

• A locked, full-screen kiosk, with the settings behind the staff code.
• The screen stays on while the kiosk is open.
• Android's back gesture does nothing on the kiosk.
• Left alone, it goes back to the start and closes the settings by itself.

What it cannot stop is someone pressing the home button and opening another app. That is the tablet's job.

iPad: Guided Access

1. Settings, Accessibility, Guided Access: turn it on and set a passcode.
2. Open the kiosk, then triple-click the side or home button.
3. Tap Start. Leaving now needs the triple-click and your passcode.

Android: app pinning

1. Settings, Security, App pinning (the name varies by manufacturer): turn it on and require the PIN to unpin.
2. Open the kiosk and pin it from the recent apps view.

For a tablet that is permanently mounted, a dedicated kiosk launcher app can go further.

The rest of the checklist

• Notifications off for everything except MatPilot.
• A tablet passcode staff know, not taped to the stand.
• A restart does not unpair the tablet; just open MatPilot again.
