Locking down the kiosk tablet

MatPilot locks the data; the tablet's own kiosk mode locks the device.

What MatPilot already locks

Kiosk mode is a locked, full-screen interface: no gym data beyond name search, admin behind the staff code. What it can't prevent is someone pressing the home button and opening YouTube. That's the tablet's job.

iPad: Guided Access

  1. Settings, Accessibility, Guided Access: turn it on and set a passcode
  2. Open MatPilot's kiosk, then triple-click the side or home button
  3. Start. The tablet is now pinned to the kiosk; leaving requires the triple-click plus your passcode

Android: app pinning

  1. Settings, Security, App pinning (naming varies by manufacturer): turn it on and require the device PIN to unpin
  2. Open the kiosk, then pin it from the recent-apps view

For a permanently mounted Android tablet, a dedicated kiosk-launcher app can go further (single-app mode, auto-relaunch after restarts).

The rest of the checklist

  • Auto-lock off, brightness comfortable, notifications off for everything but MatPilot
  • Tablet passcode known to staff, not taped to the stand
  • If the tablet restarts, the kiosk pairing survives; just reopen the app
